The course will focus on the evolution, structure and functioning of the international human rights protection system based on the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). At universal level, UN convention system and treaty bodies, special procedures, Human Rights Council (HRC) and Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process will be examined. At regional level, Council of Europe (CoE) convention system and monitoring mechanisms, with particular emphasis on the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), will be given due consideration.
