Course Goals

This course provides a thorough exploration of fundamental concepts essential to language teacher education programs worldwide. Through the elucidation of terminology, probing inquiries, illustrative charts, and comprehensive coverage of both second language and first language acquisition, students delve into essential aspects of language teaching.

Moreover, the course offers an extensive examination of the underpinnings of language instruction, incorporating the latest research in the field, which includes:

·         Theoretical frameworks such as Vygotsky's and Bakhtin's theories

·         Thorndike's law of effect

·         Approaches to error treatment, noticing, and recasts

·         Intercultural communication dynamics

·         Language policy and political dimensions

·         The role of corpus linguistics

·         Explorations of "hot topics" in Second Language Acquisition (SLA)

·         Theoretical paradigms like connectionism and emergentism

·         Concepts such as flow theory and willingness to communicate

·         Instructional methodologies based on strategies
