Course Goals
In Architectural Design Studio VI, the aim is to enable students to develop the skill of designing a complex multifunctional program in various scales and details by considering a group of buildings in the urban context as a design problem.

The scope of this semester includes, raising awareness of urban problems, investigating systematic methods for approaching architectural problems, acquiring the skill of developing original structural systems for the design, and dealing with complex programs.

Teaching Methods and Techniques The design process in the studio, starts with discussions and sketches regarding the project site and the theme selected. A design concept is developed by analyzing the potentials of the site and its relationship within the urban context.

As a method, students are required to systematically discuss the design theme and the program and create integrated solutions for the building infrastructure. A complex program should be interpreted and advanced structural systems designs should be developed. Students are also expected to develop their presentation techniques with the aid of computer technologies.

Students are encouraged to participate actively in the studio works as individuals or team members. Sharing all works in the discussion platform created in the studio and being subject to debate and criticism helps in developing students’ communication skills. Attending architectural conferences, interpretation and writing architectural texts, develops reading and writing skills in the context of design. It’s important to create an awareness of contemporary world architecture by means of thought, space and practice.
