Course Goals Building practices in historic sites will be studied and discussed based on international principles for conservation of sites and the legislation on preservation and conservation in Turkey. Typological analysis and evaluation of different examples of urban historic environments; essential principles for the revitalization and infills in these areas; current approaches of adaptive re-use of various historic building types will be conducted within the scope of conservation principles. Discussions on European examples and evaluation of examples from Turkey are amongst the scopes of classwork. New design in Istanbul’s historic settings will be in focus during student presentations.
