1. Week
Introduction to psychology of learning, historical background of learning, five schools of behavioralism.

2. Week
Elicited behavior and classical conditioning. Reflexes, fixed action patterns. Simple mechanisms in learning: habituation and sensitization.

Classical conditioning: fundamental procedures and definitions, aversive and appetitive conditioning, excitatory and inhibitory conditioning, temporal arrangements of stimuli.

Classical conditioning: basic phenomena and various complexities. Two extensions of classical conditioning: sensory preconditioning and higher order conditioning.

Three exmaples of sphecificity in classical conditioning: generalisation, blocking, latent inhibition. Addtional phenomena: temporal conditioning, occasion setting, external inhibiton, reevaluation of UC, pseudo-conditioning.

Phobias, additional factors in phobic conditioning, treatment of phobias, medical applications.

Introduction to operant conditioning, historical background. Operant behavior, reinforcement and punishment, discriminative stimulus.

Four types of contingencies: positive / negative punishment and positive / negative reinforcement. Primary and secondary reinforcers, internal and external reinforcement, natural and contrived reinforcers, shaping.

Reinforcement schedules: continues versus interminant schedules. Other simple schedules: timed schedules, reaction rate schedules, independent schedules.

Complex reinforcement schedules: combined and chained schedules.

Theories of reinforcement: Premack Principle, drive reduction theory, response deprivation hypothesis, behavioral bliss point approach.
