Course Goals

This course is designed to introduce, the structures and properties of the principal materials such as

metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites used in civil engineering. Students will also gain an

understanding of the processing and design limitations of materials. Topics fundamental to the further

study of materials, such as mechanical properties of metals and metal alloys and of concrete, thermal

expansion and thermal conductivity of construction materials, defects and failure in solids, corrosion and

degradation will be emphasized as foundations for future civil engineering courses.

Teaching Methods and Techniques

- Oral Presentation

-Lectures will be supported with visual materials and will be held face to face in  classrooms

-Short problems and thought-provoking questions are solved in the course.

-Short movies wil be watched in each chapter.
