MODELS OF HOUSING PRODUCTION IN TURKEY

Course Goals
In the process of historical development the models of housing production in Turkey will be discussed in terms of spatial and structural properties. The formation and the transformation of housing norms will be evaluated in the context of social, economic, political, technological, global-local paradigms. The study will start with the investigation of the architectural properties of the Turkish House, continue with the introduction of new building types in the late Ottoman modernization period and proceed with the early republic housing policies and new trends. Later, the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s architectural culture will be brought to focus and the evolution of the apartment building and mass housing policies in Turkey (TOKI) after the 1980’s will be mentioned.
