The AIE course focuses on humanities in the context of improving city life by discovering the existing ways of life in terms of repeated activities at a definite territory. The AIE course is a design studio to support the architectural design practice in the context of opening new dimensions for conceptual approach and public reaction. The AIE studio is an opportunity for the members to share their potential for investigating the dynamics of the city, creating map, making a problem definition, producing an innovative solution using information technologies and social media, and writing a project ready to apply for funding to start the practice.
The students are expected to learn to understand an environment by observing, recording and presenting the data in a creative way. Individual participation of the students is very important for success of the course in the context of their world view, intentions, and characters since our method of study is interactive.

Teaching Methods and Techniques
The semester starts with the seminars and the theoretical discussions on mapping and spatial reading. A specific place is read spatially and existing networks are discovered. A language for sharing the collected data is developed by the student as a visual presentation of the information belonging to the place. Invited seminar presentations for developing the project writing skills will be made. Interdisciplinary juries will support the solutions in the context of the success of the idea and the production techniques of the project.
The course is built upon the studio works. Trips in or out of Istanbul or out of Turkey may be organized. Evaluation will be done over the workshops and the final product. Individual and team work will be experienced.
