Program Objectives

 With increasing globalization being experienced all around the world, to have an awareness and understanding of current international affairs is becoming more and more important. Besides the relations among the states, the relationships between states and other international actors such as nongovernmental organizations or transnational bodies and the relations among these non-state organizations form the focus of the discipline.





Establishment

International Relations Department has begun to accept first students in 2004-2005 academic year. The first graduate was in 2005-2006 academic year and the department continues masters education either with thesis or non-thesis. There are 2 professors, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professor and  1 ambassador (retired) in the department.

Mode of Education

Non –thesis programme: 1 academic year (2 semesters)   Thesis program course load is 8 in total ; 2 compulsary and 2 elective for each semesters. Students also take a non-credit seminar course in addition to all these courses.   Non-thesis program course load is 10 in total and it is 30 credits ;2 compulsary and elective course for each semesters. Students prepare a term project in this programme.





Admission and Registration Requirements

It is required to have a Bachelor degree and score higher than 55 quantitative points from Selection Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies (ALES) for application to International Relations MA programme. Science Exam, English Proficiency Test and Oral Interview are done before the admission to the programme. They are evaluated as ALES 50%, Science Exam 10%, English Proficiency Test 10%, Undergraduate Points Average 10% and Oral Interview 20%. During the application, ALES document which is taken in the last 2 years, diploma, transcript, military situation document (for males), a copy of identity card, 2 photographs and registration fee receipt are taken. During the precise administration not the copy but the originals of these documents and the student contribution margin receipt are wanted. Programme application date is declared by the university.

Graduation Requirements

The minimum GPA required is 2.70 to graduate. In addition to regular work load, students are obliged to prepare a " Master Thesis" for the program with Thesis and a "Project" for the program without Thesis.

Access to Further Studies

Globalization process requires explication of the relation network of the state and non-state actors by a discipline.In this context, states continiue being the leading actor. State departments and these departments decision making mechanisms are still the leading subjects of the international politics, security and defense fields. International Relations is inter-disciplinary study area for both the undergraduate and graduate students. The primariy prequisite of our department is to make the students understand the chaotic structure of the international relations while equipping them with the basic analytical properties. Course of the education program displays the inter discipline of  the international relations. After the introduction courses, seminars and courses oriented for specializing in European Union, Middle East and Turkey’s international relations are mastered. The purpose is to prepare the students for the PHD programmes in international relations fields.





Departmental Facilities

In our department which aims to convey international relations to our students with all the point of views and faces, diplomats and journalists share their knowledge and experiences with our students as well as the academicians. Another opportunity offtered to our students in our department is the Erasmus Student Exchange Programme. With this programme, our students havet he chance to spend one or two of their semesters in the European Union Countries.





Program Activities

Units in which our lecturers participate in, varios facilities are conducted both in national and internaional fields. (GPOT) Global Politics Center which brought in numerous international projects to our university was founded by our departments’ lecturers, Associate Professor Mensur Akgun and Asisstant Professor Slyvia Tiryaki keeps conducting activities.
