Program Objectives

European Union Studies Master's Degree aims to provide historical and methodological infrastructure to the candidates who wants to examine European Union and EU-Turkey relations developments and able to examine those developments in a systematic way. wiRich elective course opportunities aim to develop this infrastructure with courses focusing on different fields. Elective courses European Union Foreign Policy, European Neighborhood Policy, a wide range of issues such as the EU economy, the developments in these areas and of course focuses on the importance of these developments for Turkey. The program, which aims to provide students with an analytical perspective on the European Union, is prepared under the coordination of academicians and retired diplomats who are experts in their fields. The main objective of the program, to prepare graduates of the program to take part in EU Directorate-General, EU-Turkey delegation, different international organizations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.





Establishment

 European Union Studies Programme has begun to accept first students in 2004-2005 academic year. The department continues masters education with thesis. There is 1 professor, 1 associate professors and 6assistant professor and 1 Ambassadors (Retired)  in the department.

Thesis Programme: 2 academic years (4 semesters)

Thesis program course load is 8 in total ; 2 compulsary and 2 elective for each semesters. Students also take a non-credit seminar course in addition to all these courses.

* To be graduated from a four year licence program. 
* ALES point of minimum 55 (equally weighted) within the last five years before application.

Graduation Requirements

The minimum GPA required is 2.70 to graduate. In addition to regular work load, students are obliged to prepare a " Master Thesis".





International Cooperations

ERASMUS is a European Union based program established to promote collaboration among the higher education institutions of European countries. It provides grants for joint projects and short term student and academic staff exchange programmes. Students have the opportunity to study at a European Union institution and receive financial support during the academic exchange period (one or two terms/ 3 to 12 months). Students of Architecture department may qualify to be Erasmus students in one of the following partner universitie

Global Political Trends Center (GPoT/(GPOT is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research institution established under the auspices of Istanbul Kültür University in January 2009. 

Our mission is to conduct high quality, independent and innovative research and education, acting as a link between policy-making institutions, academia, civil society and the media. 

The Center aims to achieve this by routinely bringing together opinion leaders, government officials and other policy-makers, analysts and members of the media from Turkey, the region and elsewhere. Our activities range from conducting projects and research that analyze the contemporary social, political and economic trends in regional and international politics and producing policy recommendations, contributing to public debate through roundtable discussions and international conferences to publishing policy briefs and monographs, among others.

In accordance with its mission, GPoT Center has been active in virtually all fronts concerning not only Turkish foreign policy but the current regional and international agenda, including Turkey’s European Union accession process, the Cyprus issue, NATO, the Turkish-Armenian reconciliation process, issues in the Middle East and North Africa, national and regional democratization, the Arab-Israeli Conflict and, most recently, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. 

Having become one of Turkey’s most active think-tanks in a short amount of time, GPoT Center conducts these activities either independently or in partnership with national and international institutions. The Center has collaborated with institutions such as the London School of EconomicsCenter for Geostrategic Studies at the École Normale SupérieureThe Swedish Institute for International AffairsIbn-Khaldun Center for Development StudiesEUROPEUMCenter for Arab Unity StudiesArab Democracy FoundationSlovak Foreign Policy Association and Eurasia Partnership Foundation (EPF) on various projects.

 Besides, international organizations, international meetings and various visits are organized. In this context, it is ensured that the theoretical knowledge students learn with their departmental courses is reinforced with practical experiences.

Thanks to the dynamic and competent academic staff of our department, the students are ready for their professional lives with the scientific knowledge and theoretical background they have in their education life.

Program Activities

With an understanding of supporting our academic program with applied studies, we attach great importance to the participation of our students in extracurricular activities of our Department. Our students are able to improve themselves by participating in conferences, panels and seminars held by the Global Political Trends unit of the IKU International Relations Department. In addition to this, with the international visits held every year, the students also have the opportunity to be in the center of politics, diplomas and many other factors about the field.
