In the scope of this course, the basics and applications of information retrieval systems will be introduced. Commercial search engines are based on information retrieval: the efficient storage, organization, and retrieval of text. The topics of the course include the text based retrieval systems, text classification, multilingual retrieval, question answering and related topics in NLP and computational linguistics. The standard and extended Boolean systems, modelling in vector space, text coding, indexing and compression will be taught. Text queries and their analysis will be investigated.
