Course Goals
In this course it is aimed to present available biological databases and several bioinformatic tools/methods to understand the regulation of DNA-RNA-protein information flow. In addition, it is possible to learn sequence alignment, building a phylogenetic tree, distance calculation between species, evaluation of microarray samples, genomic and proteomic understanding and SNP analysis.

Program Outcomes
PO-1To be able to determine the field related problems and analysis them to find the solutions as a specialist by using the knowledge coming from undergraduate level.
PO-2To be able to develop and apply research strategies, which depend on the new technological achievements, for novel studies about molecular cell biology, plant biotechnology and molecular genetics fields on the basis of undergraduate qualifications.
PO-3To be able to discuss field related subjects by using at least one foreign language.
PO-4To be sensitive against public problems and be able to create solutions to these problems by synthesis of knowledge coming from other disciplines with the abilities and knowledge of the related field
PO-5To be able to take independent decision in the frame of specialized knowledge and scientific approach about field and lead/proceed a project by using creativity skills.

LO-1To be able to understand the basis of biological databases and their utilization in molecular biology and genetics
LO-2To define alignment tools for two or more sequences and to discuss the reason of similarities or mismatch conditions
LO-3To be able to build a phylogenetic tree for given sequences and to discuss distance between species
LO-4To understand protein-RNA and DNA information flow and able to analyse the mass biological data by using several bioinformatics based tools
LO-5To discuss genomics and proteomics by using bioinformatics tools
LO-6To have knowledge about SNP analysis and common mutations in population based on bioinformatics understanding
