Program Objectives

 The objectives of English Language Teaching Programme comprise of providing an educational framework of professional courses, such as Contextual Grammar, ELT Methodology and Linguistics, and elective courses that will enable students to attain self-development in various cultural and professional subjects of their interest. The Programme thus aims to “create” prospective teachers with analytic and critical thinking skills, communicative competence and highly refined individual values. In line with “Lifelong Learning”, the Programme also presents prospective teachers the significance and means of becoming individuals who have developed the ability to observe socio-cultural dynamics at home and and abroad, and thus to realize the necessary professional and individual transformation process to adhere themselves to the globalized world.

Admission and Registration Requirements

 The undergraduate programme of the English Language Teaching admits 60 students every year based on the results of the Central Placement Examination administered by ÖSYM. The candidates are placed in the programme according to their DİL-1 scores, their own preferences and the requirements and quotas of the programme. Registration and admission of the students are executed by the Students Affairs Office in accordance with the calendar determined by ÖSYM.

Double Major–Minor Programs

In accordance with the guidelines of the Bachelor’s Degree Education-Training and Examination Regulations, successful students who are studying a major degree in English Language Teaching Programme can apply for a minor programme in another department. Upon successful completion of the English Language Teaching Programme, students are awarded with a certificate for this minor program along with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Language Teaching Programme.

Successful students in the English Language Teaching Programme also have the opportunity to graduate in a double major programme. The second major can be in any field. Students who meet the necessary conditions and fulfill the necessary requirements can graduate from both departments by acquiring two distinct Bachelor’s Degrees.

Internship

Students of the English Language Teaching Programme serve their internship at İstanbul Kultur Educational Institutions.

Graduation Requirements

To obtain a BA degree in English Language Teaching Programme,  students should complete the required credits (240 ECTS) with a  minimum of 2.0 GPA over 4.0.

International Cooperations

Erasmus Program is the European Union education and training program which aims to increase the quality of  higher education in Europe. For this purpose, the program promotes the cooperation between the higher education institutions in Europe. The partnerships and mobility activities are financially supported by the program. Students of the department are entitled to be exchange students for one or two semesters (between 3 -12 months) within one academic year in a higher education institution in Europe that has bilateral agreement with the department and receive financial support for their Erasmus period within the framework of the program.

Occupational Profiles Of Graduates

Graduates of the Programme can teach English as a foreign language at primary, secondary, and tertiary education levels, as well as university prep-schools. Alternatively, they may choose to work in foreign embassies or in the tourism industry.

Access to Further Studies

 English Language Teaching Programme has not yet launched MA or PhD programs.
