Program Objectives


The Educational Objectives of Industrial Engineering Department are to train Industrial Engineers,

- can be employed in national and international companies and operating in various sectors,

- can work in different departments of companies,

- can continue their career in the academic field.

Mission
- To train industrial engineers who can design, manage and improve integrated systems that can be employed by all sectors, have problem solving abilities, respect ethical rules and universal values,   - Contributing to scientific research activities accepted in national and international academic environment   - Supporting social welfare and economic development by carrying out projects with university-industry cooperation.
Vision

-  To take place within the first five departments which are preferred among the departments of Industrial Engineering of private universities in Istanbul.





Establishment

Department of Industrial Engineering was founded in 1998 within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture under the direction of Prof. Dr. Tülin Aktin.  Prof. Dr. Tülin Aktin served as the Head of the Department between  1997 - 2017. Since January 2018, Prof. Dr. Fadime Üney-Yüksektepe has been carrying out the duty. The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, which was established in 1997 in Şirinevler Campus, has been continuing education in Ataköy Campus since 2004. The name of the faculty was changed to the Faculty of Engineering by 2011 and a separate Faculty of Architecture was established.​





Qualification Awarded

The requirement for the Bachelor of Science Degree in the field of Industrial Engineering is the successful completion of the formal coursework of minimum of 249 ECTS. Students enrolled in the program are also expected to complete a total of 40 workdays of industrial training during the summer breaks.





Language of Instruction


All courses are conducted in English. Students must have a minimum standard TOEFL score of 75 or should receive a minimum score of 80 in the Inter-University Foreign Language Examination (YDS) or its equivalent in a foreign language test accepted by the Inter-University Board. For those students who do not have these test scores, the English proficiency exam made by the Foreign Language department of our university. Students who are not able to pass the English proficiency exam are required to complete one year preparation class in English.

Industrial Engineering Program admits a pre-set number of students every year based on the results of the Central Placement Examination administered by OSYM.

In addition, foreign students are also admitted to the two year programs and the undergraduate programs of Istanbul Kültür University as indicated in the guidelines of the application and admission for foreign students. Registrations of the students that are placed in the Industrial Engineering Department are carried out by Istanbul Kültür University Student Affairs Office according to the calendar set by OSYM.

Double Major–Minor Programs


In accordance with the guidelines of the Bachelor’s Degree Education-Training and Examination Regulations, successful students who are working towards a major degree in the Industrial Engineering Department can also apply for a minor program in another department Upon successful completion of the Industrial Engineering program, students are awarded with a certificate for this minor program along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. Successful students in the Industrial Engineering Department also have the opportunity to graduate in a double major program. The second major can be in the field of Business Administration, Economics or Computer Engineering. Students who meet the necessary conditions and fulfill the necessary requirements can graduate from both departments by acquiring two distinct Bachelor’s Degrees. For details...

Internship


In order to graduate each student must complete an internship for minimum of 40 workdays. The time of this training should be outside the academic period (fall and spring) or must be approved by the Faculty Administration Council. The training which begins after the fourth semester should be conducted in accordance with the students’ fields of study and must be compatible with their engineering formation.

Graduation Requirements


The student must successfully complete all courses (equivalent of a total 249 ECTS) that take place in the four-year education plan. In order to complete all the courses in the program successfully, the student must have at least 2.00 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. In addition, each student must have completed 40 days compulsory internship.





International Cooperations


ERASMUS is a European Union based program established to promote collaboration among the higher education institutions of European countries. It provides grants for joint projects and short term student and academic staff exchange programmes.  Students have the opportunity to study at a European Union institution and receive financial support during the academic exchange period (one or two terms/ 3 to 12 months).

Upon successful completion of the undergraduate program, candidates having acceptable scores in ALES exam and proficiency in English can go on to graduate programs.





Departmental Facilities

Industrial Engineering Department is located in Atakoy Campus. The faculty consists of 2 Professor, 4 Assistant Professors, 5 Research Assistants.  Research interests of the members of the department cover a wide range in the field of Industrial Engineering. The department has a Computer Laboratory and Production and Measurement Technologies Laboratory, which are used for both education and research purposes.
