Program Objectives

The Department of Economics is founded to raise economists who are needed in the growth and the development process of our country. Since it covers macroeconomic issues such as growth-development, export-import, unemployment, financial markets and stock exchange market, investment, production, consumption, revenue, and expenditure, economics is an important field of science. Therefore, Department of Economics has prepared a contemporary undergraduate programme with the aim of educating students as top-level managers to work in public and private sectors. It also offers students a unique programme both in theoretical and practical contents. The course programme of the department is updated regularly in line with the latest socioeconomic developments. Our students are encouraged to follow socioeconomic events so that they graduate with having the ability to use their theoretical skills in practice.

The objective of Istanbul Kültür University Department of Economics is to bring in our society the idealist economists who can use the theoretical knowledge they have acquired and think interdisciplinary, who can follow the economy effectively, who can make accure economic decisions, and have independent thinking skills by using the latest software in the field of economics.





Establishment

Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Economics was established in 1999.

 





Qualification Awarded

Students who have successfully completed the courses in the education plan and have a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0 are entitled to receive an undergraduate degree in Economics.





Language of Instruction

Language of instruction in Department of Economics is Turkish and the foreign language preparatory class is optional.

THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS 2024-2025 ACADEMIC YEAR QUOTAS, THE LOWEST AND HIGHEST SCORE TABLE ARE BELOW.

 Student admission to the Department of Economics;

 •  Students are admitted to Department of Economics based on the results of the exam held by the Student Selection and Placement Center (Ölçme, Seçme ve Yerleştirme Merkezi Başkanlığı-ÖSYM) or the resolutions taken by the Council of Higher Education.
•  Foreign students' application, registration and admission procedures are conducted in accordance with the principles set out by the Senate pursuant to the applicable legislation provisions.
•  For undergraduate (internal or external) transfers, admission and registration procedures are executed in accordance with the applicable legislation provisions.

Double Major–Minor Programs

Customized Double Major and Minor Opportunities:

Successful students who continue their education in any program of our university can complete their second undergraduate education at the same time in any of the departments of our university, according to the evaluation results of the applications made in certain periods of their education. Students who successfully complete the Double Major program and earn a bachelor's degree in two departments are awarded two separate Undergraduate Diplomas.

In accordance with the provisions of the Istanbul Kültür University Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulation, successful students who continue their major education in any program may partially participate in the undergraduate education of all departments within a certain program. This Education-Training program is called "Minor Program". Students who successfully complete their Minor Program along with their own program are awarded a Minor Certificate along with the Undergraduate Diploma of their department.

Internship

There is no compulsory internship in the Department of Economics. However, our students are supported with internships through the FEAS Internship Commission.

Graduation Requirements

Students who have successfully completed the courses in the education plan and have at least 2.0 weighted grade point average out of 4.0 are entitled to receive a bachelor's degree in Economics.

 In order to gradute fron the Department of Economics, the student must complete 240 ECTS in accordance with the compulsory and elective course rules in the curriculum.

Occupational Profiles Of Graduates

Graduates of Deparment of Economics gain the knowledge to continue their career in the following fields:

 • as a specialist-officer in relevant public institutions,

• in every level and subject of banking,
• every kind of institutions in capital market,
• in insurance companies,
• in leasing, factoring companies,
• as staff and manager in companies related to the department , and
• as academician at universities.





Access to Further Studies

Management Economics Master's Program (With / Without Thesis) Under conditions where global competition is increasing and increasing day by day, companies; The need for executive candidates who can see and analyze socio-economic changes and developments in a timely and accurate manner and transform the analysis results into competitive advantage is increasing.Management Economics Master Program aims to raise graduates who can strongly analyze the effects of economic events and decisions in business management.

Money and Capital Markets Master's Program (Thesis / Non-Thesis)
The greatest need of the economic and financial structures that are getting more complex will undoubtedly be expert financiers and economists who can manage these structures. In our Money and Capital Markets Master's Program; We aim to train future money and capital markets experts with a content that will minimize the distance between academia and the market area in money and finance. Our program is designed to meet the needs of candidates preparing for the Capital Markets Board (CMB) licensing exam. The program aims to train young researchers who are experts in Money and Capital Markets.

The Production Economics Master's Program (without Thesis) focuses on how the innovation created in production technologies and production systems throughout the world changes the structure of production and labor, as well as the changing management of production in this constantly changing structure. In the competitive world order, countries improve their economies day by day with the quality and quantities of their production. Therefore, every country's economy needs economists who are aware of the important role of production in development. The goal of this program is; To train graduates specialized in the field of production economics and researchers who can conduct scientific studies in this field.

Economics PhD Program
aims to train qualified academicians. In this direction, it is aimed to provide a doctoral education at international standards in the field of theoretical and applied economics to the students admitted to the Program. In the first year, students are offered compulsory courses that will transfer the basic topics of economics at the doctoral level and various elective courses covering current economics issues. At the end of the first year, it is aimed that the students, who will form a good background with the courses they take, will conduct independent and ethical research in the field of Economics, analyze scientific studies with a broad perspective and contribute to the national and international economics literature at the end of the program.
Duration of the Master's Program:

- Program with Thesis : 4 Semesters

- Non-Thesis Program : 3 Semesters

PhD Program Duration: 8 Semesters

GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR APPLICATION TO ALL PROGRAMS

• Being a graduate of a 4-year undergraduate program,

• For programs with thesis, applicants must take the ALES exam within the last three years and receive at least 55 points in the type of the graduate program score.

• ALES is not required for non-thesis programs.





Departmental Facilities

Our Economics Department values "grading" for success.Successes of the students of the students of our department are taking into care for not just course grades but also performances in internship possibilities provided by our department. Our purpose is to make sure the Turkish young adults graduating from our university with the equipment that  will be useful for both their country and the world.

In the courses, economics events, global markets are being tracked and interpreted.

Economy-Finance Implementation and Research Center that runs their actions with the name of Economy Platform inside the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences structure compleetd its establishment process with publishing the regulations in the Official Newspaper in April 2009.Center was running its actions as Economy Platform  before its establishment.

Main prposes of Economy-Finance Implementation and Research Center are; conducting research about subject related to macro-economy and the lower sections of the economy like natşonal and international economy, finance, planning,etude,project, publishing and similar studies.

Center also conducts functions like cooperating with national and international private and official organizations, establishing study groups, providing necessary equipment, library and archive for activity areas.

Organizing national and international symposium, conference, congress, seminar and scientific meeting, joining these kind of activities and arranging courses and similar activities as a professional internal service educations and joining to the ones that are arranged also in the purpose of the Center that is targeted to provide useful services for economy management with public and private sectors and academic environment.

Program Activities

These activities, systematically conducted throughout each academic year, equip students with key skills such as critical thinking, staying updated with current affairs, conducting multidimensional analyses, and gaining an interdisciplinary perspective.
