Program Objectives
Istanbul Kultur University (IKU) is an institution of learning and teaching, committed to serving the needs of society. Within this scope, the Software Engineering Department (SEN) contributes to the mission of the University in three ways. First, its undergraduate and graduate education programs seek to educate students for the challenging world by providing the fundamental principles of software engineering and the skills needed to solve the complex technological problems of modern society; the breadth of course work complemented with hand-on experience provides a framework for life-long learning and appreciation for multidisciplinary activities. Second, with the research and professional activity expectation, the department aims to contribute to the development and progress of computer engineering, with the emphasis on software design and development and IT in healthcare, to provide innovative, creative solutions for societal needs. Finally, the department initiatives to focus on teaching, research, and service will help to establish institutional and industrial relation and collaboration.

Establishment Istanbul Kültür University, a foundation university with public legal personality, was established on July 15, 1997, by Law No. 4281. It provides education and training in accordance with Higher Education Law No. 2547. İKÜ has all the rights and authorities of a state university. The Software Engineering Department accepted its first students in the 2024-2025 academic year and became one of the departments of Istanbul Kültür University.
Qualification AwardedOfficial of Program: Four academic years (excluding one year of mandatory preparatory English program; two semester per year; seventeen weeks per semester.
Language of Instruction The language of the instruction at Istanbul Kultur University is English. Therefore, students must complete the preparatory stage successfully.
Mode of Education Full-time
Admission and Registration Requirements High School Diploma; placement through the centralized national university entrance examination; certification of English proficiency; or University administered English proficiency test score.
Double Major–Minor Programs In accordance with the guidelines of the Bachelor’s Degree Education-Training and Examination Regulations, successful students who are working towards a major degree in the Software Engineering Department can also apply for a minor program in another department(Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering,Physics or Mathematic&Computer Departments). Upon successful completion of the Software Engineering program, students are awarded with a certificate for this minor program along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering.
Successful students in the Software Engineering Department also have the opportunity to graduate in a double major program. The second major can be in the field of Industrial Engineering. Students who meet the necessary conditions and fulfill the necessary requirements can graduate from both departments by acquiring two distinct Bachelor’s Degrees.
Internship In order to graduate each student must complete an internship for minimum of 40 workdays. The time of this training should be outside the academic period (fall and spring) and must be approved by the Faculty Administration Council. The training which begins after the fourth semester should be conducted in accordance with the students’ fields of study and must be compatible with their engineering formation.
Graduation Requirements The student must successfully complete all courses (equivalent of a total 254 ECTS) that take place in the four-year education plan. In order to complete all the courses in the program successfully, the student must have at least 2.00 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. In addition, each student must have completed 40 days compulsory internship.
International Cooperations ERASMUS is a European Union based program established to promote collaboration among the higher education institutions of European countries. It provides grants for joint projects and short term student and academic staff exchange programmes. Students have the opportunity to study at a European Union institution and receive financial support during the academic exchange period (one or two terms/ 3 to 12 months). Students of the Software Engineering department may qualify to be Erasmus students in one of the following partner

Occupational Profiles Of Graduates The graduates of the Software Engineering Department are employed in industry at the different sectors such as automotive, manufacturing, banking and insurance. They are also worked in different departments of firms such as sales and marketing, finance, production, design and management.

Access to Further Studies Upon successful completion of the undergraduate program, candidates having acceptable scores in ALES exam and proficiency in English can go on to graduate programs.
Departmental FacilitiesSoftware Engineering Department is located in Atakoy Campus. The faculty consists of 2 Professor, 1 Associative Professor, 4 Assistant Professors, 8 Research Assistants, 1 Engineer. Research interests of the members of the department cover a wide range in the field of Software Engineering. The department has computer laboratories over the capacity of students to use for both academic research and education purposes.
