Course Goals
This course explores the relationship between games and cultures across history, from pre-modern play to digital and mobile games. Students will examine how games both reflect and shape cultural values, beliefs, and practices. Topics include ancient and medieval play, the rise of commercial board games, arcade culture, serious and educational games, urban play, game communities, and the future of games. Through readings, discussions, and practical activities, students will critically analyze games as cultural artifacts and social practices.
