Program Objectives

PROGRAM PURPOSE

 

The New Media and Communication Department is a department that emerged in parallel with the development of information and communication technologies. The Department of New Media and Communication aims to train its students as individuals with essential knowledge and equipment on topics such as communication, media, communication technologies, digital content production and management, digital marketing, data management, internet journalism, basic design programs, and user experience.  The department aims to create original and creative projects in the media field and contribute to the training of competent communicators needed by the digitalizing industry.

 

Our students who graduated from the Department of New Media and Communication, after their graduation, "Social Media Manager", "Digital Media Programmer", "Digital Content Manager" "Social Media Consultant", "Digital Marketing Manager", "New Generation Communication Specialist”, “SEO (Search Engines Optimization) Specialist”.





Establishment

Istanbul Kultur University, Faculty of Art and Design, New Media and Communications Department was opened by Decree No. 24409 of 22 May 2001 in the Official Newspaper. Department of New Media and Communications was established on 28 April 2016. The department accepted its first students in the 2016-2017 academic year.







Qualification Awarded

 Students who fulfill the requirements of the four year undergraduate program (240 AKTS) get the undergraduate degree of “New Media and Communications"







Language of Instruction

 The medium of teaching is Turkish. Foreign language preparatory classes are optional.







Mode of Education

 It is compulsory to complete the 4 year undergraduate curriculum.







Admission and Registration Requirements

 New Media and Communications department accepts students with required grades of verbal tests 2 of the University Entrance Examination.

Double Major–Minor Programs

Double Major

The students who successfully accomplish their major program will be able to attend courses for Double-Major in other relevant departments. Students, who successfully complete the Double Major program and receive the right to the undergraduate degree of both departments, are given two separate Undergraduate diplomas.   

Minor Programs  

The students have the opportunity to attend minor programs in related department by attending at least 40 ECTS courses. The students who complete the minor program successfully will be awarded with a certificate for this minor program along with an undergraduate diploma.







Internship

 The students are required to complete internship in the institution and complete 40 days internship out of the institution.









Graduation Requirements

Students in the Department of New Media and Communication must complete all courses available (for a total of 240 ECTS), fulfill the 40 working days external internship requirement, and obtain a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00







International Cooperations

 The Faculty of Art and Design is a member of ELIA (The European League of Institutes of the Arts).

Occupational Profiles Of Graduates

Graduates of the Department of New Media and Communication can work in the digital media, advertising, marketing, and production sectors as Social Media Managers, Digital Content Managers, Social Media Experts, Digital Marketing Managers, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Specialists, SEM (Search Engines Marketing) Specialists, E-Commerce Specialists, Digital Broadcasting Directors, Journalist and Editors in Digital Broadcasting Platforms, User Experience Designers, Digital Platform and Interaction Designers. In addition, they can steer their careers in a different direction by taking advantage of the minor and double major program opportunities during their undergraduate education.







Access to Further Studies

 The students who graduate from İstanbul Kültür Üniversity New Media and Communications department have the right to attend an undergraduate or post graduate program in any University that has programs related to their areas.   







Departmental Facilities

New Media and Communications department’s students have the opportunity to have education abroad in one of the partner universities as an Erasmus/Socrates student. In addition, during the students' education, social aspects of development, they have opportunities in the campus center,and student clubs.





Program Activities

 Several interviews, conferences and workshops are organized in the program during their education. Students will participate in some events about their education, seminars and workshops on new media, combined with the industry's top names that will be able to get the chance to have a broad knowledge of their professional life.
