Turkey has begun to implement urban transformation projects, especially in its big cities, for a variety of reason such as; earthquake risk and unhealthy urbanization. It is envisaged that approximately 7 million of the approximately 20 million dwellings currently existing in Turkey will be renewed in the next 20 years, for which about 500 billion dolars will be spent. These are only the amounts calculated due to earthquake risk. These will also need to be summed up by the size of the urban transformation work to be done for other reasons. Although there are three laws aimed to regulate urban regeneration Works in Turkey, there are very different understandings and evaluations in the public opinion. As of today, the fact that the implementation is being done according to the parcel base rather than the large building islands leads to confusion. In addition, the widespread expression of the rent component also causes reactions in the public opinion. On the other hand, the application does not go at the desired speed, and serious bottlenecks occasionally occur. Urban transformation is most intensively and most widely implemented in Istanbul. For that reason, it is a good place to take our university’s urban transformation program into education program.
