Course Goals

Legal parlance is very difficult in Turkey. Existence of plentiful words and phrases in Arabic and Farsi make it very difficult to understand. It is necessary to teach Ottoman Turkish in order to eliminate this difficulty, and to make the legal texts, terms and decisions and precedents of the Ottoman era understandable, and also to decode certificates, documents, title deeds, lease contracts, bonds, contracts of association, equities, registry informations, discharge documents, reports, commercial vouchers, invoices etc. from the Ottoman era and from the early years of the republic. Students who took this course, have the ability to understand the text at hand containing legal words and phrases in Arabic and Farsi. They also realize the legal matters, issues and solutions of old times.
