This course aims to provide an overview of waste categories, waste disposal, waste management and governance in waste management. It covers key elements of the waste management system, such as its technical, environmental, social, financial and institutional aspects. The course places particular emphasis upon the approach that aims at balancing development with environmental and social responsibility. In this respect, it introduces appropriate and already applied solutions through selected case studies and examines selected management practices through the lens of sustainable approach.
