Program Objectives

The aim of the Environmental Design Master's Program is that graduates who have received undergraduate education in physical planning fields such as Architecture, Interior Architecture, Industrial Product Design, Landscape, City and Regional Planning Departments will gain experience through the education of environmental and cultural contexts.

The goal of the Environmental Design master's program is to focus on physical environmental organisations, sociology, culture and sustainability studies aiming at human comfort in the built environment at different scales.

It encourages to think on how to transform the built environment in collaboration with its users, taking into account the contexts of Society, Sustainability, Culture and Environment.

It is expected for program graduates to have following speciliaties;
- Develops and deepens professional practice, research methods and technique with a base on the Bachelor’s degree in the field of architecture, planning and design at an advanced level.

- Conducts a scientific research in a critical way, improves skill in academic dialog for the critical and categorical results

- Makes contribution to professional knowledge and practise in the related field , takes mutual and individual responsibilities , conceives interdisciplinary interaction.

- Has an advanced level of art and culture aesthetical knowledge in the related field

- Improves skills in using a foreign language at least at a level of European Language Portfolio B2 General Level.

- Has competence in using communication technology and informatics by software knowledge in the relevant field.

- Conducts an academic research in a systematical and critical way, prepares and presents academic research in national and international media.

- Has theoretical and practical knowledge at an advanced level in the reletad field.

- Has artistic and aesthetical knowledge and improves skill in application which leads to productivity.

- Organizes and manages phases of artistic and scientific studies while having a competence in project management.

- Defines goals in the artistic and cultural media.

- Defines national and international literature in the related field.

- Expresses aim, value and meaning of his studies for the target population in an effective way.

- Has multi dimensional point of view for the principles and standards of economical, environmental and sustainable environmet in the related field.

- Takes an active role in the process of raising the awareness of public by preserving and introducing cultural merits






Establishment

In the Spring Semester of the 2002-2003 Academic Year, the Environmental Design Master's Program was opened. The Environmental Master's Program affiliated to the Graduate Education Institute is carried out in line with the basic values ​​stated below.

Qualification Awarded

 A Master's degree in Environmental Design is given to students who have successfully completed all the courses and thesis work in the annual education plan of the Environmental Design Master's Program and have at least 120 ECTS.

Graduation Requirements

In order to start the thesis in the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department, Environmental Design Master's Program (with Thesis), it is necessary to complete 12 ECTS compulsory courses and 48 ECTS elective courses with a minimum 2.70 GPA.





International Cooperations

  Regarding the professional field; Relationships have been established with the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and The Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC).





Occupational Profiles Of Graduates

 A graduate degree program that aims to educate interior architects who can produce adequate technical and aesthetic solutions, are equipped with the necessary professional knowledge, prioritize quality, aim to provide world-class education in design and application, use up-to-date technologies, have self-confidence, are open to new developments and integrate with the world. education system is targeted.
  Our program provides new graduates with a bachelor's degree in related subjects or employees of the relevant sector, the opportunity to gain expertise, conduct research, develop a career and most importantly, catch up with the times. In addition to theoretical courses, information transfer is provided in workshops, skills are developed, and the program is enriched with seminars and joint studies.





Access to Further Studies

 As stated in the Decision Report of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design dated 17 June 2011, the decisions regarding the Interior Architecture Master's Program proposed by the Department are as follows:
 Graduates of the following departments can apply to the Interior Architecture Master's Program (provided that they fulfill the application requirements for the Graduate Program).
  * Architecture,   * Interior architecture,   * Landscape architecture,   * Indrustrial products design,   * City and regional planning  

*Apart from the above-mentioned departments of the Fine Arts Faculties of the universities, from which departments students can be admitted will be decided according to the proposal of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design to the relevant Institute. It is envisaged to apply a 1-year "Master's Preparation Program" for students who graduated from different departments of Fine Arts Faculties. In order to start the Master's Program, the student must complete the Preparation Program with a GPA of at least 2.00. According to this; the "Interior Architecture Master's Preparation Program" to be completed by the student is as follows.

Candidates who successfully complete the Istanbul Kultur University, Graduate Education Institute, Interior Architecture Master's Program can enter the Doctorate Program according to the application conditions of the relevant programs of the universities.





Departmental Facilities

In the Ataköy Campus of Istanbul Kültür University, there are 7 design studios, six classrooms, three workshops (models, ceramics, basic art), a computer laboratory and a lighting laboratory belonging to the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.

Academic Staff in the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design are architects, interior architects and industrial product designers. The academic staff in our department consists of 2 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 4 Doctoral Faculty Members and 2 Lecturers with PhD.

Program Activities

The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, together with the students of the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, exhibits the works they carry out within the scope of Project courses, with the main theme of "Student Exhibition" every semester.

Our department is represented in national/international platforms. Our faculty members participate in the Architectural Project Competitions opened in our country and represent our university in the architectural community, national and international platforms with the degrees they have received. Scientific researches carried out are presented at national and international congresses and published in journals.
