Program Objectives

Our program objective is to provide necessary academic knowledge and skills to them so they can become researchers that are specialized in their fields, who has skills to develop new mathematical ideas and methods, who follows national and international scientific publishing and current developments, who assimilated ethical values and uses a common language with their stakeholders, who increases our country’s researcher potential that has universal competition power, who conducts high leveled studies by taking positions in researches about mathematics and disciplines related with mathematics and who contributes to literature by publishing these unique studies in respectable scientific magazines.







Establishment

Istanbul Kultur University Institute of Sciences takes place in the establishment schema of Istanbul Kultur University that was established in 15 July 1997 by 4281 numbered law. Our University’s Graduate Programs Regulation was came into force on 5 February 1998 by publishing on Official Newspaper and afterwards the renewed regulation was put into force by being published in 25841 numbered Official Newspaper on 10 June 2005. Institute of Sciences that continued to show an increased acceleration from the day it was established has 13 Graduate and 5 PhD programs. Institute of Sciences continued its Mathematics – Computer Graduate Program education that started at 2000, with Mathematics PhD Program on 2003. Istanbul Kultur University is one of the first foundation universities that have an authorization to give PhD degree in Mathematics field.

Analysis, algebra, mathematical logic and applied mathematics are offered in Mathematics PhD Program.

 *In accordance with the decisions of the Chairmanship of the Higher Education Institute the Department of Education for the present department/program names, taken in the Meeting of Higher Education Institute dated 11.03.2020, our present program named the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science has changed into the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences.







Qualification Awarded

Students who completed all classes that take place in a 4-year education plan successfully and who gained at least 210 AKTS are given Mathematics PhD degree.

Admission and Registration Requirements

Applicants who completed their Undergraduate or Graduate degrees with success and who will apply to Mathematics – Computer Major PhD Program need to have at least 55 score from ALES exam if they are applying after having their Graduate degree (Masters) to continue on PhD education, at least 70 score if they are applying with only having an Undergraduate degree. Also according to 02.06.2007-dated Regulation About Conducting Change in Graduate Degree Education Legislation’s “b) embankment that published in 26540 numbered official newspaper, in the admission process to the PhD programs, at least 55 score from UDS or a similar score from another exam that was accepted by Intercollegiate Committee, for foreign students, again at least 55 score from UDS or a similar score from another exam that was accepted by Intercollegiate Committee in one of English, French or German languages that is not their native language is mandatory.

According to the 6th item of Istanbul Kultur University Graduate Degree Education and Exam Regulation, method that will be used in success ranking of the PhD applicants whose pre-applications were accepted will be as follows:



1. ALES Score 50%

2. Interview 20%

3. Foreign Language Exam 15%

4. Undergraduate Graduating Degree (GPA) 15%

Applicants must get at least 65 score out of 100 in total to receive chance of official admission and registration.

Graduation Requirements

To take courses that are present in the department of 60 AKTS and to reach at least 3.00 GPA over 4.00, to be successful at the proficiency exam and to prepare a doctorate thesis, present it in front of judges and be successful.





International Cooperations

Erasmus Program is a European Union program to encourage European Colleges and Universities to cooperate with each other. Unlimited financial support is provided for Colleges and Universities to generate and implement common projects with each other and to make students and staff exchanges with each other for short time periods. Department students have the chance to become an exchange student at an European country’s College or University that has an agreement with our university inside 1 academic year for 1 or 2 (3-12 months) semesters and to get financial support for the time they stay at overseas within the program. Students can get their education from one of the listed universities below:

·         Sofia University St. Sliment Ohridski, Bulgaria,

·         University of Amsterdam, Netherlands.





Occupational Profiles Of Graduates

Students who graduated from Mathematics PhD Program have a wide selection of occupational choices in front of them although most graduates prefer to become researchers and work in organizations or serve as an academician in universities.
