It is aimed to give the students the general information on Seljuk and Byzantine Architectural Styles, theoretical knowledge on the Ottoman Architectural Heritage that forms the majority of architectural heritage within the borders of Turkey, its social, economic context and typological characteristics, the skills for interpretation of Ottoman Period buildings within their political, economic, and cultural contexts, a better understanding of critical turning points of Ottoman Period Architecture, its inspirations from and its effects on other periods/cultures, the development of the building technology, the phases of construction, to introduce bibliographical sources for more detailed research studies, to give the ability for the critical approach in evaluation of theoretical knowledge and skills and the ability to continue and complete an independent research on the subject.
