The aim of this course is to provide relevant knowledge about the transformation of economies from a centrally planned economy to a market economy. For this purpose, the origin, rise and collapse of centrally planned economic system will be considered at the beginning. Afterwards, the transformation process, and the economic dynamics of transition will be analysed in various economic aspects. The changing role of the government, and the institutions; and the economic policies that are necessary for transition will also be covered. Country cases – Russia, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe – will be examined, and compared with each other.
