Course Goals

The aim of this course is to examine popular culture and everyday life in Turkey within the socio-cultural, economic and political discourses of Turkey through art, music, television, sports, fashion and film. The course will cover a time period starting with the early- Republican era until the 2000s and assess the changes reflected in/by popular culture products.

Program Outcomes
PO-1Students will be able to define all sorts of concepts predominantly related with communication, arts and culture alongside other differint disciplines.

Learning Outcomes
LO-1Will learn the socio-economic and political factors of the modernization movements in Turkey.
LO-2Will be able to assess the popular culture products of the Early-Republican era (1930-1950).

LO-4Will learn the affects of internal migration, urbanization, industrilization and modernization in agriculture to the socio-cultural change in Turkey.
LO-5Will assess the socio-cultural changes of globalization, capitalism and consumerism in Turkey starting with the 1980s.
LO-6Will be able to make comments on the popular culture products of the 2000s.
LO-7Will learn how to analyze products of popular culture through assignments.
