Program Objectives
Istanbul Kültür University's Department of Communication and Design is committed to providing students with a critical understanding of graphic design, web design, photography, and video and digital media. Our compulsory courses, such as Contemporary Art, Popular Culture, Art Texts, Cultural Studies, Experimental Art Workshop, and Multimedia Applications, integrate studies in art, history, theory, and criticism with photography, video, graphic arts and web design. Departmental photography, video, and visual and web design electives can be selected. These courses are held in Mac and PC laboratories and film and photography studios. Our departmental elective courses allow our students to expand their creative possibilities as future photography and video artists and graphic and web designers and have a visual curriculum that best reflects and promotes themselves when they graduate. In the direction of today's technological developments and the changing artistic and cultural perception styles, the Department of Communication and Design constantly updates its curriculum and academic structure to share contemporary art practices with students in the best possible environments.
In the Department of Communication and Design, while education continues through lectures and practices within the school, it is integrated with activities such as technical tours, exhibition visits, etc., outside the school. With social activities such as panels and workshops organized in parallel with educational activities, the academic activities are aimed to take on a structure that meets the demands of the industry. Art Workshops, Technical Tours, Industrial Meetings, Turkish Cinema Talks and Contemporary Art Talks are organized throughout the academic year. They are planned to contribute to the education of students in a supportive manner.
Alums of the Department of Communication and Design can work as graphic designers, web designers, UI/UX designers, digital content producers, cinematographers, and social media experts in all industries where multimedia products are needed. In addition, they can take part in contemporary art as photographers, video artists and art critics. Students of the Department of Communication and Design are expected to master the concepts of communication, art and culture with the education they have received, to be able to interpret technological developments and, accordingly, artistic perceptions and current art practices, to use the tools and equipment necessary for their professions correctly and to transform their creative ideas into multimedia applications.
EstablishmentFounded in July 1997 with the article 4281, Istanbul Kultur University Art and Design Faculty, Department of Communication and Design (Multimedia), started its academic year in 2002-2003.

Admission and Registration Requirements
Starting from 2015-16 Academic year, The Departments of Communication and Design will be recruiting students through central placement exams instead of performance based assessments.
The undergraduate programme of the Department of Communication and Design admits 70 students based on the results of the Central Placement Examination administered by ÖSYM. The candidates are placed in the programme according to their VERBAL scores, their own preferences and the requirements and quotas of the programme. Registration and admission of the students are executed by the Student Affairs Office in accordance with the calendar determined by ÖSYM.
Double Major–Minor ProgramsStudents with a Grade Point
Average of 2.80 and above can simultaneously study second undergraduate in one
of the other departments in our university. Students who successfully complete
the Double Major Program earn two bachelor's degrees and are granted two
separate undergraduate diplomas. Students with a General Grade Point Average of
2.50 or above can pursue a minor certificate in other department by attending
at least 72 ECTS courses. Students who successfully complete the minor program
together with the major program are given a bachelor's degree diploma and a
certificate for the minor program.
InternshipStudents are required to complete an internship for 40 working days outside the university.
Graduation RequirementsStudents are required to fulfill 240 ECTS credits (25% elective courses, 75% compulsory courses) and 40 days summer training. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) shall be minimum 2.00 over 4.00 to be successful and to complete the Program.

Erasmus collaborations with prestigious schools in Europe are among our teaching principles for our students to explore new cultures, expand their visions and advance their vocational training.
Occupational Profiles Of GraduatesGraduates of the Department of Communication and Design can start their careers in the field of culture and art.
1) In the media sector; they can work as graphic designer, web designer, UI / UX designer, digital content producer, art director, producer, cinematographer, social media specialist.
2) In the medium of contemporary art; they can take place as photography and video artists and art critic.
Access to Further Studies
Students who pass the External Transfer Exam and apply for the Department shall attend to an orientation program for one year.
The Department also offers Graduate Program in the field of Communication and Design.
Departmental FacilitiesWe know the importance of sectoral experience for our students. For this reason, we regularly organize interviews and workshops that bring our students together with respected names who lead the cinema and media sector. In addition, with our technical trips, we aim to provide our students with inside information about the functioning of the sectors in which they will work after graduation.
Art is one of our core values. For this reason, we regularly bring our students together with artists who have achieved national and international success in various fields of visual arts throughout the year. We organize trips to major international art fairs, biennials and festivals with the advantage of being in a city like Istanbul, which is intertwined with art. In this way, we aim for our students to meet famous artists in their fields, get to know their work and benefit from their experiences.
In addition to the wide variety of club activities offered by Istanbul Kultur University, our students can attend the events and workshops organized by the IKU Film Workshop, Photography Club and IKU Blockchain Club established within the Department of Communication Design.
Program Activities
Many different activities such as ITM Art Workshops, ITM Technical Trips, ITM Industry Meetings, Turkish Cinema Talks, Contemporary Art Talks, IKU Film Workshop Club Activities, IKU Photography Club Activities, IKU Blockchain Club activities are held throughout the year.
