| Course Goals |
The aim of this course is to help students develop basic communication skills in Spanish and enable them to express themselves in simple situations they may encounter in daily life. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand frequently used expressions and simple conversations on familiar topics, communicate using short sentences to describe routines, past experiences, and immediate needs, and demonstrate basic reading and writing skills in contexts such as family, food, city navigation, and daily activities.
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1.Listening
· understand short, clear announcements, simple directions, and basic information about opening hours or locations.
· grasp the main point of simple conversations about family, food, daily routines, and recent past events.
· follow slow, clearly spoken speech about personal experiences using Pretérito Perfecto (e.g., he visitado, he comido).
2.Reading
· read short, simple texts such as restaurant menus, brief city or neighborhood descriptions, and basic ads.
· understand simple personal messages or letters describing daily life, habits, and recent activities.
· identify key information in brochures or menus related to Spanish and South American food culture.
3.Spoken Interaction
· order a meal in a restaurant, ask about ingredients, and make simple requests.
· ask for and give directions using basic prepositions and expressions (a la derecha, a la izquierda, cerca de, lejos de).
· engage in simple conversations about family, physical appearance, and personal belongings using possessive adjectives and the present tense.
· ask and answer questions about past experiences (e.g., ¿Has estado en…? ¿Qué has comido?).
· describe their daily routine using reflexive verbs, time expressions, and adverbs of frequency.
· give a brief description of a city or neighborhood, mentioning places, services, and basic characteristics.
· introduce themselves and their family, describing people’s appearance and personality.
· talk about recent past events or experiences (a weekend, a trip, a meal) using Pretérito Perfecto.
4.Writing
· write short, simple notes or messages about routines, likes/dislikes, and recent past activities.
· fill in forms with personal details (name, address, nationality, etc.).
· write a short postcard or message describing where they live, the neighborhood, and something they have done recently.
