| Course Goals |
The aim of this course is to help students acquire basic communication skills in Russian and enable them to express themselves in simple situations they may encounter in daily life. By the end of the course, students will be able to understand simple conversations using basic language structures at the A1 level, communicate using short and simple expressions, and develop basic reading and writing skills. In addition, students will be able to use the locative and accusative cases correctly, talk about everyday activities using present and past tense verbs, ask and answer questions about time and direction, and express basic intentions and plans using common verbs of motion and aspect.
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1.Listening
understand simple, slow‑paced questions and statements about familiar topics such as daily routines, time, and location.
recognize basic time expressions (what time is it?, when?, how long?) and respond appropriately.
grasp the main idea of short dialogues involving everyday actions in present and past tenses.
2.Reading
read and pronounce the Cyrillic alphabet correctly, recognizing printed and handwritten forms.
understand short, simple texts such as a menu, a brief description of Russian food culture, or a simple note about daily activities.
identify days of the week, times, and basic directional information in written form.
3.Spoken Interaction
ask and answer simple questions about where people live, what they read, and what they like.
order food or talk about meals using culturally relevant vocabulary related to Russian cuisine.
ask for and give simple directions using the verb to go and the question where to? with basic directional phrases.
make and respond to simple suggestions or plans using the verb to want and basic expressions of intention.
4.Writing
write short, simple sentences about everyday life using the locative, accusative, and dative cases in common contexts.
fill in basic forms with personal information (name, place of residence, etc.).
